Xeriscape Project Spruces Up Andover Glen Park

By Randy Simpson

Andover Glen Park got a makeover this past month as a group of hardy volunteers spent several hours planting and moving mulch. This project was part of the City of Aurora’s Xeriscape Rebate Program in which the city encourages the removal of grass and the planting of xeriscape plants to reduce the use of water. All plants costs will be reimbursed by the city (over $4000 worth) and the Association only paid for the delivery of mulch as the actual mulch was donated.

Dave Estes also helped coordinate the day and shows his skill with a shovel

Overall, there were about 9 or 10 Andover Glen neighbors who contributed to the work day,

including Norm and Quink Arlt, Dave and Patty Estes, Anne Stellmon, Derrick Lauglin and Lynn Walton, Randy Simpson, Bob Stracy, and Ron & Linda Adams. Over the long term, it is hoped this project will not only beautify Andover Glen Park, but save the Association money in reduced watering costs. ~

Anne Stellmon isn’t just a great Association Secretary—she’s agile with garden tools!

The results of the hard labor are a more beautiful Andover Glen Park!

Mark your Calendar Now for the Andover Glen Summer Picnic

By Debra Jones

Andover Glen has already had a busy summer with garage sales, dumpster days, xeriscape projects and the community garden.  So, we have set aside Saturday, August 29th for your family to come to the Annual AG Picnic at the Park.  The food, fun and festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m.  The Association will be providing a BBQ with soda, bottled water, paper plates, silverware and napkins.  We would like the homeowners with odd house numbers to bring your favorite salad and the homeowners with even numbers to bring your favorite dessert.  We are unable to offer alcoholic beverages, but you are allowed to bring your favorite (alcoholic) drinks.  So grab your lawn chairs and come enjoy an afternoon in your park with your neighbors.  If it just happens to “rain” on our picnic, we will have the picnic on Saturday, September 12th, same time - same place.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Debra at debsew79@msn.com. ~

Keep a Watch for Summer Vandals

on cars in our neighborhood. Some cars have even been hit more than once. This activity usually occurs late at night or very early in the morning, and seems to be instigated by kids either driving or walking through our neighborhood. We encourage everyone to keep and eye out for suspicious activity and people of all types in our neighborhood and don’t hesitate to take action of you see something suspicious by calling the non-emergency number of the Aurora Police Department at 303-627-3100 or even contact me personally at (cusleuth@comcast.net) or 720-379-4616.  It’s only by sticking together and being observant and aware that we can discourage and reduce vandalism and other such activity in our neighborhood. When the word gets out that Andover Glen residents are keeping a close watch on their neighborhood, the would-be vandals will tend to go elsewhere.

There is a special AGHA email alert system in our neighborhood that several dozen families are already using for special notification of suspicious or police activity in the neighborhood. It also serves to inform AG residents of up and coming events helpful for each household.  It is voluntary to join so please consider being part of this neighborhood watch group by sending your email to Derrick Laughlin (cusleuth@comcast.net). All email addresses are kept confidential and used for these purposes only.  Let’s be vigilant, aware, and look out for each other! ~
