Final “Dumpster Days” Weekend October 6th – 8th will also offer Document Shredding
This is it! Your final chance to get rid of all the junk, trash, clutter, bushes, tree branches, etc. from around your house. Andover Glen will be holding its last of the year “Dumpster Day” weekend October 6th – 8th. Also this year, as a special added service to Andover Glen residents, there will be on site document shredding available on Saturday October 7th, from 9a.m - 11 a.m. The shredding truck will be located next to the dumpster, near the entrance to Andover Glen Park. This is a safe, fast and easy way for you to watch your unwanted documents being destroyed in the shredder. It will destroy all paper, paper clips, staples, film, CDs, checks and checkbook registers into pea size. All of the shred will be recycled. Shredding will cost $2.00 for a 8x8 banker box and $3.00 for a 12x20 large/legal size box. Please see the attached flyer from CurbSide on document shredding.
Just a reminder that the dumpster and shredding is for Andover Glen homeowners only and is paid for by your Association Dues. If you have large tree branches and bushes to dispose of, please cut them down to smaller pieces to fit into the dumpster. No toxic wastes like old paint, oil, batteries, tires, etc. are allowed. Also, please do not overfill the dumpster. Once the dumpster is full we will put a sign on it and no other items will be allowed. If the trash company cannot cover the dumpster, they will not take it. When this happens we all have to pay for another dumpster, so please, please do not overfill it. The last dumpster day was a great success and I want to thank everyone for their cooperation. I hope that every homeowner will take advantage of the document shredding so we can offer this every time we have Dumpster Day.

3 New Members Elected to Andover Glen Board
At the annual Andover Glen Homeowners Association meeting held on September 18th, three new board members were elected. They are Adam Tucci, Royal Shields, and Bill Windler. Their exact duties on the board will be decided at the regular monthly board meeting to be held October 18th. Each of these new members has valuable experience in areas which should prove valuable to the Association.
On behalf of the board and the Association, a deep and sincere THANK YOU goes out to the three departing board members, Jan Guerra, Ron Adams, and Dave Kline. Each of these Andover Glen residents has given many years of valuable service to our neighborhood and if you happen to see them going about your daily activities, make sure you tell them how much you appreciate their service.
Some other items of note from the Annual Meeting:
* The membership showed an indication of interest in developing a long term Xeriscape plan for the Neighborhood. The focus of this plan will be to create more functional and beautiful areas in the Andover Glen Park and along Parker Road, that will also use less water.
* The membership showed an indication of interest is having the board approach trash collectors and request they all try and collect on a single day in our neighborhood to reduce the number of days we have trash trucks in our area.
There were lots of other interesting topics discussed at the meeting. For the complete (though not yet official) minutes from the annual meeting, visit the Andover Glen website at www.andoverglen.org. ~

Annual Spiff Awards Announced
As part of the agenda during the annual Andover Glen Homeowners Association meeting this year, it was my honor to announce the recipients of the annual Spiff Awards. Andover Glen Covenants and Architectural Change requests go hand in hand …
A funny thing happened when I moved into Andover Glen a few years back from a neighborhood that didn’t have covenants. Not only did I buy a great house in a great neighborhood, but I also entered into an additional legally binding contract with the Andover Glen Neighborhood Association. I didn’t fully realize the significance of this contract until I took a general background course on the legal nature of Associations from the attorney we use. In that course I learned that covenants are just as legally binding as any other contract that we enter into. I also learned that, regardless of whether I was fully aware of them when purchasing my home, by signing on the bottom line, I also became legally bound to adhere to the covenants of Andover Glen. Written quite clearly into our covenants is the requirement that I fill out an Architectural Change Request for exterior improvements and not undertake those improvements until I receive approval. Of course, the Association membership may one day vote to remove this requirement, but as of today, this is the process to make exterior improvements to our homes. As a Board member I am legally bound to uphold this requirement, and as a homeowner I am legally bound to follow it. ~

Yes Virginia, there will be a Holiday Party this Year!
A variety of circumstances prevented Andover Glen from having its annual picnic this summer. Those circumstances were squarely in the hands of Mother Nature as we got some much needed moisture (but why couldn’t she wait a day!) All that is past us now of course, but some very generous neighbors have graciously opened their home for a Holiday Party this year. Mike Zabinski and ML Hanson have kindly offered to host the party at their home this year. The date is tentatively set to be Saturday, December 9th. There will also be a separate children’s party the same evening at another location.
A planning group is being organized for those wanting to give input to this party. If you’re interested in being part of this planning group, please contact me at 303-690-9459 or debsew79@msn.com or Mike Zabinski at 303-627-4044 or mikezabinski@comcast.net.

The Magic Word “Others” is Exemplified by Your Neighbors…
By Randy Simpson
It was a snowy Christmas Eve many decades ago, long before anything like the internet had even been dreamed of. The head of the Salvation Army had only enough money to send just a one word telegram to his thousands of troops around the world. Imagine just one word to summarize the mission, hope, purpose and spirit of that wonderful service organization. The word he chose was “Others”.
The spirit of that word and its meaning of service is truly exemplified by our three departing board members, Jan Guerra, Ron Adams, and Dave Kline. It is also displayed by all those who have served on the board, attended one of our work days or even attended one of our neighborhood picnics. Just taking the time to stop in, say hello, and make our neighborhood a bit more of a friendly place to live shows you care. ~
