“Communication is the key to a strong community”
March 2006, volume 5, issue 2
After many months of hard work, your AG Board finally completed and passed a new set of Policies and Procedures to help ensure that that AGHA business is conducted efficiently, consistently, and fairly. These new guidelines are mandated partially by new State of Colorado laws regulating the way that homeowner associations conduct business, but also by the fact that AG has not had any written polices that state how our covenants are to be enforced. This lack of specific policies and procedures has resulted in some inconsistency over the years in how the AGHA has conducted its normal course of business.
I hope you take the time to read through the new Policies and Procedures. These are truly meant to help to make the Association operate more smoothly. If you see areas in the documents that you don’t understand or that you think might need amending, please know that your AG Board wants your input, and expects the Policies and Procedures to go through continual changes to make them better over the coming months and years. The latest version of the will always be available on the web at www.andoverglen.org. You can also get the latest version by contacting the current AGHA Secretary, Anne Stellmon. Finally, a special agenda item will be added to the April 2006 AGHA Board Meeting to receive homeowner comments, questions, and suggestions for these new documents. ~

Avian Flu is coming. It’s spread by migratory waterfowl to domestic poultry and causes massive economic losses wherever it goes. If transmitted to humans, it is deadly, with a larger than fifty per cent mortality rate. So far, human to human transmission has not been established.
These serious concerns were addressed at a March meeting at the Colorado Statehouse, attended by Colorado’s chief medical officer, members of the CSU School of Veterinary Medicine, several State Senators and Representatives, and a number of concerned citizens, myself included.
The following conclusions were reached:
A) It is difficult to control migratory waterfowl.
B) We have an enhanced statewide surge capacity for treatment of citizens, but adequacy cannot be predicted.

C) Places where outbreaks occur typically have had lots of human-animal interaction with poultry waste as a factor.
D) Vaccines are being made ready, but there are some questions regarding how the virus may mutate.
What can we do in Andover Glen? Not much, in one sense—quite a bit in another.
A) End our love affair with migratory waterfowl. Chase them away from parks and places where humans congregate. By all means, do not feed them.
B) Cats were included in all the infection charts we saw. They have a greater susceptibility risk. We should keep them indoors. They live longer that way anyway. Dogs should be on leash, since it limits exposure to fowl droppings. This is already the law—it is just not enforced very much.
C) Set aside emergency stores of food and water. Some circumstances may dictate that we are best served by just staying home for a while.
We in Andover Glen may hope that our best efforts at prevention and cures will be effective. It is up to each of us to do our very best for our own families. Good luck!
