Annual Meeting Set for September 18th at Shalom Park
The Andover Glen Homeowner’s Association Annual Meeting is set for Monday, September 18th at 7 p.m. There will be lots of important issues to be discussed (see full agenda on page 2 of this Gazette). Attendance at these annual meetings can be a bit sparse at best, which is disappointing considering that many issues that could have a direct impact on you are addressed at these meetings. It’s really an ideal opportunity to catch up on the business going on your neighborhood, not the least of which is the election of new AGHA Board Members.
We hope to see you at the meeting on September 18th. For those who may not know, Shalom Park is located on the south side of Belleview Avenue between Parker Road and Chambers. The meeting will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and will end no later than 8:45 p.m.

Where: Shalom Park
When: Monday, Sept. 18th, 7 p.m.

Get Ready for the Spiff Awards!
The summer is fast fading away and lots of you have been working all summer making your home look its very best. In looking around the neighborhood, I’d say Andover Glen is looking as good as it’s looked in years. Coming up at the Annual Meeting on September 18th, I’ll be presenting some well deserved rewards for those who have done the very best in their categories. I hope you would attend the meeting anyway, but it will be extra nice to give a bit of support to this year’s Spiff Award winners. Also, be sure to try and support the many fine merchants who are advertising in this newsletter. Without their support, our Spiff program would not be possible. ~
Picnic Rescheduled for October!
As Mother Nature decided to rain out our annual AG Picnic, it will be rescheduled for October. We’ll let you know the exact date in the September Gazette. The fall weather might lend itself to Bratwurst on the grill!

Work in the Great Outdoors! Volunteer Opportunities Available…
Got some time on your hands? Need something to keep the kids out of
trouble? Need to do those community service hours for all the traffic tickets? Then why not volunteer to help out on Andover Glen park
projects? Norm Arlt always has some "nice to do" projects that just need some not-very-skilled volunteer labor. Projects include building mulch beds, topping off bare spots with mulch, picking up trash (especially around
the creek), pruning shrubs, tennis court maintenance, weeding, adding drip
irrigation, etc. Norm will be glad to show you what needs doing so that you do the job on your own schedule. Contact Norm at 303-766-7344 or email at normarlt@comcast.net to find out how you can help your neighborhood.~

Your Neighborhood Needs Your Support!

I am as guilty as the next person of what I call the “garage door” syndrome. I come home after a long day at work and the garage door goes up, my car goes in, and the garage door goes down. That’s it. I’m in my castle and unfortunately, all too often the last thing I want to do is get involved in my neighborhood. This may sound strange coming from the current AGHA board president, but I too suffer frequently from the “garage door” syndrome. It’s easy to fall into, and besides apathy, symptoms include bouts of saying things like “they’ll take care of it” or “let them handle it”.
Having lived here about 4 years now, What I’ve noticed is that there is a very small core group of dedicated people who really do the heavy lifting for the neighborhood, and keep the rest of us from having to get involved. This core group does work that we’d have to pay management company and lots more laborers to do. If it weren’t for this core group, our annual dues would definitely be a lot higher.
My plea to you is to see how you can get involved in the neighborhood, even if it’s in the smallest of ways. You don’t have to become a Board member to help out. Even what you might consider the smallest of things, will add up to big things if enough people pitch in. It will lift some of the burden off our core group of volunteers and perhaps even help to make you feel more connected to the neighborhood. If you’d like to know how you can help, just ask any board member, or call me personally. Our numbers are listed on the last page of this Gazette. ~
