Association elects two new Board Members, returns two to Board
By Randy Simpson
At its Annual Meeting in September, the Andover Glen Homeowner’s Association
elected two new members to the Board and elected to return two current Board
Members back to the Board. The newly elected Board members were Anne Stellmon
and Debra Jones, neither of whom have previously served on the AG Board.
Returning to the Board are Norm Arlt and Randy Simpson whose 3 year terms were
up.
Leaving the board are Barbara Harrington and Curt Krall. Barbara leaves after
serving six years on the Board. During that time she served as Chair of the
Welcoming Committee, and this past year she served as Board President. Her term
as President was a busy one in which she admirably handled issues such as
getting a new entryway monument built, clearing up red-tape related to
Sundown/Andover Glen legal issues, and directing the Association’s ongoing
efforts to draft new policies and procedures and compliance with SB100 . Curt
Krall resigned his position as Chair of the Social Committee after serving for
one year, but did a wonderful job during that period, helping to organize
several events, including the popular “dumpster days.” Both Barbara and Curt
deserve a big “Thank You” from everyone in the neighborhood for their efforts.
The Board has not yet assigned new Board positions but intends to by the October
meeting. ~
1st Annual Spiff Awards Announced at September Picnic
By Bob Meyer
At the Annual AG Picnic in September, the 1st Annual “Spiff Awards” were handed
out to nearly two-dozen Andover Glen neighbors. The spirit of these awards was
to encourage and reward those who display exemplary pride of ownership for their
properties in a variety of different areas. $1000 worth of prizes were handed
out with over $700 of that being traded out for advertising in Gazette.
Congratulations to the winners! (the complete list is on page 2 of the Gazette).
Your efforts to "Spiff" the neighborhood are appreciated. Hopefully, your prize
will be something you like and will enjoy. However, if you received something
that perhaps you could not use, please contact one of the other winners and
arrange a swap for something you want and need. Advertisers hope to see you in
their place of business and we should try to redeem coupons promptly, lest they
expire. (What a shame) All this helps us next year when we come back to arrange
for more prizes! ~

AG Board “cooks up” a cordial Annual Picnic
By Randy Simpson
Hamburgers and hot dogs were sizzling hot and juicy on the grill as AG Board
members served as cooks at the annual AG Picnic. There was lots of friendly
conversation and the weather was perfect. The highlight of the day was the
announcement of the 1st Annual Great Andover Glen Spiff Award recipients. If you
missed the picnic, no worries, as you can stop into our Holiday get-together in
December. These are great chances to meet a few new neighbors or catch up with
the old friends. Hope to see you in December or at the picnic next year! ~

Norm Arlt receives “Royal Order of the Loyal Soldier” Award
By Randy Simpson
If you had to pay someone to do all the grounds keeping and other miscellaneous
work that Norm Arlt has done for Andover Glen over his many years here, one
thing is for certain - our annual dues would be higher, maybe much higher. From
fixing cracks in the tennis courts to mulching or repairing sprinkler heads,
Norm does it all. More amazingly, he does it without need for recognition. Year
in and year out he handles the many miscellaneous grounds keeping tasks simply
because he knows they need to be done. At this year’s annual picnic Norm finally
received a bit of much deserved recognition for his years of hard work. He was
presented with the “Royal Order of the Loyal Soldier” Award for his “above and
beyond”, loyal and dedicated service to Andover Glen. So the next time you walk
in Andover Glen park or drive in the entryway on Parker Road and think how nice
everything looks – rest assured the Norm Arlt had something to do with it. Next
time you see Norm you might want to say exactly what I’m going to end this story
with, “Congratulations Norm and Thank You!” ~

Final “Dumpster Day” a bit too successful?
By Randy Simpson
By Saturday night of our final Dumpster Day weekend, the dumpster was pretty
much full. I know, because I dumped a bunch of aspen tree branches in around
sunset. I had my son climb up into the dumpster and smash everything down. I
left the dumpster pretty full but not overflowing. On Sunday, I took my dog for
a walk after sunset. As we were leaving the park, we heard an odd sound coming
from the curve where Dillon meets Layton. A truck without lights was using
chains to drag a large tree to the dumpster. How in the world, I thought, was
that guy planning on getting that thing up into the already full dumpster?
Certainly he’ll realize it’s full and turn around and bring it back. Or so I
thought. As it turns out, whoever it was somehow did get the tree into the
dumpster, but of course it was overflowing by then, and when the dumpster
company came to pick up the dumpster, Curt Krall was forced to pull the tree out
before they would take the dumpster. The Association had to order and pay for a
second dumpster at an additional cost of over two hundred dollars. Three lessons
I’ve learned from this. One, the dumpster days continue to be popular. Two, we
need to figure out some way of controlling access. Three,
if you spot a truck dragging a tree in the dark with its lights out -
