Large volunteer turnout makes for a successful mini-grant workday
By Norm Arlt
This year’s mini-grant workday was a big success as we had a total of 31
volunteers assist in one way or another. This compares to 17 who volunteered
last year. The volunteers put in several hours apiece, putting in edging and new
mulch along Parker Road. The volunteers were: Linda Adams, Ron Adams, Norm Arlt,
Quink Arlt, Fred Freeh, Jan Guerra, Tom Guerra, Barb Harrington, Alan
Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Connor Janson, Susan Janson, Curt Krall, Derrick
Laughlin, Maddie Laughlin, Julie Melton, Carl Miller, Frank Pelz, Tilly Pelz,
Royal Shields, Kathy Simpson, Randy Simpson, Robert Stracy, Susan Stracy, Cody
Stuart, Dana Stuart, RJ Stuart, Eric Tamminga, Seth Tamminga, Phil Tamminga, and
Lynn Walton. A big THANK YOU to all these volunteers who made our neighborhood
look better! This workday is an annual event, so plan to attend next year. It’s
usually about the same time of year- in early May. ~
A hard working but fun loving crew
Never too busy to pose for the camera
Wheelbarrows served many purposes
And of course…stunning results!
So what’s up with the entryway monument?
By Barbara Harrington
Some days I think Murphy or some of his relatives must live here. We’ve been
planning on reusing the existing foundation for our new monument. It has been
determined that a portion of our existing foundation is located on the CDOT
Right of Way. We applied for a permit based on the fact that we are reusing a
foundation which already exists in the Right of Way, but the application was
denied. Therefore, we must modify our existing foundation to remove whatever
portion is on the Right of Way. A portion of the foundation can be cut off and a
new pad added at the east end nearer the trees. We are now waiting for CDOT to
determine how far we have to move it. We anticipate that the final figure will
be somewhere between 1 and 3 feet.
In the April Gazette, Murphy got carried away and told you that the new sign
will have a green stucco background with gold colored aluminum letters, when in
fact the background will be black granite and the lettering will be sandcarved
into it and filled with metallic gold paint. The Andover Glen Park and Dillon
entrance pillars will also be getting new gold colored aluminum lettering. The
new monument and new letters on the other pillars should give our park and
community entrances a nice, long needed facelift. They have not been updated
since they were built in 1985.
We’ll keep you updated as the saga continues, but rest assured – it will be
rebuilt!
Finally, a personal note of thanks all of you who came out to help with the
landscaping on the Andover Glen workday. This year’s good turnout made for a
shorter workday for everyone, and the results look great! ~
AG Garage Sale set once more for Father’s Day weekend
By Fred Freeh
Our annual Andover Glen garage sale is slated once more for Father’s Day
weekend, Friday and Saturday, June 18th and June 19th from 8 am to 4 pm each
day. It’s a great chance to get rid of that valuable “stuff” in your basement
and garage and make some cash. There is usually a very good turn out for this
event, with lots eager buyers, so if you’re planning on having a garage sale
this summer, this is the best weekend to do it! Get your items out on your
driveway early, as the buyers will be lining up and ready to buy! ~
Roll-off neighborhood dumpster set for weekend of June 25th-27th
By Curt Krall
Just in case there are a few items that don’t sale at your garage sale, we are
going to have a large roll-off dumpster available on the following weekend. This
dumpster will provide a great way to get rid of hard to get rid of items from
around your house as well as yard waste like tree branches, etc. The dumpster is
just for our Association members and paid for by your Association Dues, so take
advantage of it! No toxic wastes like old paint, oil, batteries etc. are
permitted. Wait for the City of Aurora Household Chemical Roundup in September
for that. The roll-off dumpster will be parked at the same location it was last
year, on Layton Dr., near the entrance to Andover Glen Park. It will be
delivered sometime on Friday, June 25th and picked up on Monday, June 28th. ~
Association Dues to remain the same for 5th year in a row
By Jan Guerra
Though the cost of water and gasoline may be going through the roof, your AG
Board has been working hard to keep costs in line for the Association, and is
pleased to announce that it has voted to keep dues the same at $321 for the
2004-2005 budget cycle. You should have received notice of these annual dues in
the mail. Please make your check out to the Andover Glen Homeowners Association
and return it to Jan Guerra at 14190 E. Saratoga Pl., Aurora CO. 80015. They are
due by July 1st. Please be sure to return your payment by that date or interest
penalties will be added! ~

Can you solve this mystery?
By Barbara Harrington
When this community was originally platted in 1979 it was registered as Sundown.
When the Homeowners Association was incorporated and registered in 1984, it was
registered as Andover Glen HOA. How did we arrive at a change in name from
Sundown to Andover Glen for our HOA and entry monument?
If you know the answer, please call me or any other board member. My number is
303-693-0868. ~
AG receives micro-grant from City
By Randy Simpson
Our neighborhood has received a micro-grant in the amount of $100 to help fund
this newsletter. The grant will be used to pay for printing costs for the
remainder of the year. 30 city neighborhoods applied for $13,000 in grants and
only $4,075 was available. ~
Tales from the Underside of Things
By Max Reed
I’ve heard rumors that some of you think I’m a slacker because you think I
didn’t show up for the mini-grant workday. Well, I’ll have you know that I was
there, and chose to remain incognito because I don’t like anyone making a big
deal out of me volunteering. I did return a few times to my house to imbibe in a
margarita or 2, each time. But none the less, I worked hard when I was there,
and I happen to notice a few people were resting a bit more often then others,
like the real slacker pictured below.
I don’t think I ever saw this loser get up once from sitting under this tree,
and it wasn’t water he was drinking! Whatever was in his “water” bottle could
have been used to remove vegetation! So congrats to all of you who did help on
the wonderful work day- and to the sorry person in the photo above – get some
help, buddy! ~
Remember to file an architectural change request form before starting that
project!
By Ron Adams
Spring and summer tend to be the times that many of us make those improvements
to our homes, so I wanted to remind you to file an architectural change request
form to the board before making exterior improvements to your house. The forms
are available on the Andover Glen website at:
