Monument Update
By Barbara Harrington
After visiting the monument site last month, discussing the possible orientation
for the new monument and having received the bids on the 2 designs, the Board
has selected the single face monument which will run parallel to Parker Road.
Cost was a primary consideration. Norm Arlt has prepared the area for
construction by having the lawn/landscaping maintenance crew remove the shrubs
near the trees where the monument will be built. Our contractor is anxious to
begin. However, we are now waiting for approval of our permit request by the
City of Aurora.
The process has been long and we are all looking forward to the completion of
this project. We may even schedule a ribbon cutting or christening ceremony, so
watch for further news!
If you like any further details on the monument, please feel free to call me at
303-693-0568. ~

Active Spring and Summer to lead to an active September in AG
By Curt Krall
We’ve had a pretty active year so far in Andover Glen. From our Mini-Grant
workday, to the Garage Sale, and our “Dumpster” weekend, there’s been lot’s of
activities to get involved with. All this spring and summer activity is leading
up to an active September as we will be having our Annual Picnic on September
12th, Annual Meeting on September 20th, and a second dumpster weekend on
September 24th-26th. Busy times for a busy community! Your Andover Glen Board is
working hard to keep our community a fun and active place to live. If you have
any questions about any of these events, please give me a call at 303-400-9652.

Let’s talk about Toys
By Ron Adams
I love living in Andover Glen. I like the wide streets, big trees, brick houses,
parks, good schools and the people. I also like having a moderately low-key
Homeowners association that helps keep the neighborhood clean and well kept.
Some of you may not realize how much work the people on the board do for this
neighborhood. Most of you probably do know because I see you out there pitching
in on volunteer workdays. Also, many of you have served your time on the board.
I also like the low HOA fees that we pay compared to similar neighborhoods. So
what does it take from each of us to keep Andover Glen a good place to live? As
you all know we have covenants and municipal codes (city laws) that we have to
live by. We shouldn't have to get too strict or too lax about these codes to
keep this a nice neighborhood; but I think we do have to be responsible and
reasonable. Many of us, including me, have motor homes, boats, etc. The city
code says you cannot park these in front of your house. I have recently gotten
more than a few complaints about this. However, I think nobody is going to
complain if you park it there for three or four days to clean it, stock it or do
MINOR maintenance. I do this frequently during the summer. I think it would be
unreasonable for people to complain about this. However, I think it is equally
unreasonable and irresponsible to leave it parked in your driveway or on the
street for two or three weeks. It makes the neighborhood look cheap and it is a
dangerous nuisance. Trust me, if you leave it there more than about 10 days, I
will start getting calls from your neighbors complaining about it. I think this
is a valid complaint, and I will come and talk to you about it. Your neighbor
doesn't want to complain to you because he doesn't want to be a complainer. I
don't either. But I like living in a nice neighborhood. So lets all agree to be
reasonable and responsible. Its a lot easier and a lot more fun. Let's keep
Andover Glen a very good place to live. ~
Let’s talk about Dues
By Jan Guerra
Did some of you forget? Homeowner dues are Due! The fiscal year has started
(7/1/04-6/30/05) and the annual assessment was due on 7/1/04. Thanks to the 89
homeowners that have already paid, with most paying well in advance of the 7/1
due date! As indicated on the dues notice, pay early again next year! As for
those unpaid dues…liens will be filed on unpaid properties in August. Delinquent
homeowners have been notified. The August Newsletter will list the properties
and any lien activity required. If you have not paid, please do so promptly to
avoid the lien process before it begins! Andover Glen HOA ended up under budget
for the last fiscal year. Full financial reports for the year will be available
at the annual meeting in September after the accountant has filed with the IRS.
Also, please note that in last months AG Gazette, when the annual budget was
presented, the line item for “Training and Education” was inadvertently left
out. The item should be for $140.
If you have any questions about the budget or dues, please give me a call at
303-766-0464. ~
There are several opportunities for service coming up this September on the your
Andover Glen Board. This is your chance to get involved and give back to your
neighborhood. Only a few hours a month are required. Please contact any current
board member for more information.

Tales from the Underside of Things
By Max Reed
It has come to my attention that there has been an increase in vandalism in the
area over the past few weeks. Some cars have got their front windows smashed in
along Dillon and in Woodgate. My son was so angered by this, that he suggested
he and I go out and buy some “paintball” guns and hide in the bushes to “nail
these guys”. My son’s intentions are in the right direction, but I’m sure that
for those vehicle owners who have woken up in the morning to find their
windshields smashed in by some punk teenager, a simple “paintball” gun doesn’t
quite cut it. Are teenager’s so bored that they can’t think of anything better
to do with their time than drive around and destroy property? Now I know this is
all nothing new, and vandalism by teenagers who haven’t been raised properly,
and suffer from lack of parental supervision is ages old. I think you may see
where I’m going with this. I am not excusing the mindless actions of punks, but
as we all know, the character of a child is formed by his or her surroundings
and the parent is responsible for those surroundings. So rather than shoot a
paintball pellet at a teen who has just damaged your vehicle, I would suggest we
use barbed tracking darts- the kind that can’t be pulled out easily. Then when
the misguided little darling makes his way home to his mommy and daddy, we
simply track him there, and with the assistance of the police department of
course, arrest both he and his parents. At that point, I think the laws are far
to lenient towards this type of crime, and nothing less than public service and
public humiliation is called for. Maybe both the parent and teen, together
should serve the victims of the crimes by mowing lawns and washing cars for a
few years. During their service they should be made to wear T-shirts that say,
“We screwed up. Please give us another chance.” If this all seems a bit silly,
wait until it’s your car window that’s smashed in. Keep a watchful eye for these
punks, and if you see a sale on tracking darts, please let me know. ~
Next Meeting reminder:
The next AG board meeting is open to all AG Association members and will take
place on August 18th, at 7 pm at Ron Adam’s house. Ron has learned how to make
moonshine whiskey from dandelions and will be providing samples for everyone in
attendance. Ron says it tastes awful but after the first glass your tongue goes
numb so it doesn’t matter. Plan to attend!
