Happy Holidays! It’s been a Great Year!
By Andover Glen Board

The Andover Glen Board would like to wish all of our neighbors a very happy and safe holiday season. We’ve had another very busy year here in Andover Glen with our share of excitement from garage sales and neighborhood picnics to mini-grant workdays and “dumpster weekends”. We’ve had a lot of fun and seen some great community spirit. We also have some great energy and enthusiasm in our new board members who have already come up with some really great ideas for our neighborhood. We look forward to another fun and exciting year in 2005. Again, Happy Holidays to you and your family! ~

The year started out pretty shaky with the destruction of our old monument caused by a driver losing control in the snow on Parker Road. At the time, no one could have known the incredible red tape that would confront us to get the monument rebuilt.

Warmer Weather brought out a very enthusiastic group for our Mini-Grant workday.

Some tasty times and good company could be found at our Neighborhood Picnic.

The year ended with the successful completion of our new monument!

Come one come all to our annual Holiday Party! All Andover Glen adult residents are invited to attend the fun and festivities on Saturday December 11th from 7 – 10 p.m. at the Melton’s at 14387 E. If you haven’t been to one of these get-togethers they are a lot of fun and another great chance to get to know some of your neighbors, or just relax and watch Norm Arlt dance with a lampshade on his head. Just kidding Norm! Seriously though, even if it’s just to drop in for an hour or so and say hello, we hope to see you there! ~

Holiday AG Kids Party also set for December 11st
By Cindy Wagner

Coincidentally, at the same time of the AG Adult Holiday Party, there will be an AG Kids Holiday Party at my house at 4913 S. Dillon St. For kids up to the 5th grade, there will be some games, snacks, and maybe a definite “G” rated movie or two. Qualified supervision, drinks and snacks will be provided, and this is really a chance for the adults to slip away and enjoy themselves at the Adult Party down the street at the Melton’s without having to worry about getting a babysitter. The only requirement is that I ask you to please RSVP to me at 303-693-8729 by December 8th. ~

The 1st Annual Andover Glen Spiff!
By Bob Meyer
Home. Our wonderful neighborhood, Andover Glen, has achieved maturity. We have trees higher than rooflines; landscaping is well in and evolving to meet the changing times. We are an established neighborhood with all the benefits and challenges that implies. So, why do we want a contest to help “spiff” things up?
Have you seen Sophia Loren lately? She just turned seventy and may be the most beautiful example of a woman of her years in this world. She gave an interview at age sixty-five, basically saying that she just takes good care of herself. And does it ever show!
Andover Glen, like Sophia Loren, is blessed with great beauty. We have a custom-home look from the many builders that were here. We have a comfortable flow about us and present a lovely appearance to those passing by. But, just like Sophia Loren, we must take care of what we have.

Prizes will be awarded for: Best overall appearance, best use of color, most improved, most innovative, best use of drought-tolerant plants, and much more. Stay tuned for more on the Great Andover Glen Spiff in upcoming AG Gazette issues, and get ready to say, “Lets go spiffin”! ~
Lookin’ Good. . .
Two homes in our area have made some nice improvements recently…
The Henkel House at 14134 E. Layton Dr. got a beautiful new roof and the Foster Home at 4934 S. Dillon Street was power-washed. Thanks to both of them for keeping Andover Glen Lookin’ Good!

It’s that time of year again…
By Norm Arlt
It's time for Andover Glen to get bids for our two-year contracts for irrigation services and landscaping services. If you know of any good dependable company large enough to handle our four acres of grass and landscaping, please pass the contact information on to Norm Arlt, at 303-766-7344, or normarlt@comcast.net. Bid requests will go out in early January. ~

AG Board exploring possibilities of power-washing and staining of perimeter fencing
By Randy Simpson

At the November AG Board meeting the board voted unanimously to begin exploring the possibilities of having the some of the perimeter fencing in our neighborhood power-washed and stained. The board will be exploring options and costs related to this possibility during the winter months and make a decision in the spring. The board would welcome any thoughts or comments you might have related to this issue. Contact phone numbers are on the last page of the Gazette. ~
Andover Glen Neighborhood Watch
By Bob Meyer

We have had several incidents lately. One home was entered and lots of valuable items were taken. The family’s loss was significant and their feeling of invasion was great. Thankfully, no one was at home and there were no injuries. But, what if the mother had been home alone, enjoying a quiet bath?

That is why we are at full speed to organize your Neighborhood Watch. About twenty-five neighbors have agreed to be involved. If you have not been contacted and would like to be a member, call Bob Meyer, 303-690-6927. All you have to do is to be more aware, perhaps downright nosy, and report things that just do not look right. We can all help by making our streets less inviting to the bad guys. If our homes are buttoned up, cars off the street, garage doors down, perhaps they will go somewhere else. Speeders will get a call from our friendly Aurora PAR officer if you get a license number to me.

Take lots of walks, and remember to bring your cell phone. It does not cost one penny to be watchful and aware. To be careless can cost a lot. We get to make that choice and live with the results. ~

Saving the Environment by Freecycling
By Cathy Hoganson
Did you know there is a worldwide Freecycle Network (www.freecycle.org) made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Each local group is run by a local volunteer moderator and membership is absolutely free. To sign up, all you have to do go to their web page and follow the instructions to find our city. After you have located our area, an automatic e-mail will be generated which, when sent, will sign you up for your local group and send you a response with further instructions on how the program works.
The end result is that you can swap, give, or get stuff from other people right here in the Aurora and Denver Area. Ever have an old item you didn’t know what to do with and thought it would be shame to put it into a landfill? Well, now you can Freecycle it!
The Freecycle Network is nonprofit organization whose mission includes keeping good stuff out of landfills and helping strengthen local gifting & recycling communities. So maybe each year, as we are having our annual AG garage sale, the stuff we don’t sale, we can Freecycle and keep it out of our landfills! ~
