Monument Update
By Barbara Harrington

We are now are in the “hurry up and wait” phase. Our contractor was most anxious to start our job when we ran into a couple of snags with the City. Now that those obstacles have been overcome and the foundation has been poured, other jobs had been moved ahead of ours and started and now we wait again. The cement block substructure should be completed shortly, however the brickwork and setting of the stone face will likely not be done until mid to late September. If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to call me at 303-693-0568. ~

Comings and Goings in Andover Glen…
By Barbara Harrington

Last month we had 2 homes for sale in Andover Glen and this month I am pleased to tell you that one of them is under contract. Closing is scheduled for near the end of August, so I’ll be able to tell you about our new neighbors next month!

A quick update from the AG Treasurer
Treasurer Update
By Jan Guerra

Our new fiscal year started July 1st and I am happy to say that the majority of homeowners paid in full and paid on time! Our current status shows 96 out of 99 homeowners either paid in full or are paying as per arrangements.

Three homes are unpaid at this time. One is under contract to sell and payment of dues is expected from that sale closing. The Board agreed to place a lien on each of the other two unpaid properties due to non-payment and no response to repeated attempts to collect the assessments. Those two properties are: 4923 S. Dillon Street and 14114 E. Layton Drive. Interest accrues on the unpaid balances. In order to remove the lien, payment in full must be received for the following: the assessment amount owed, the interest accumulated, and the filing fees to place and remove the lien. Full financial reports for the last fiscal year will be available at the annual meeting in September. ~

Neighborhood Picnic Sept. 12th 4-6pm Annual Meeting Sept. 20th 7 pm Dumpster Days Sept. 24th-26th
We Want You!
By Barbara Harrington

Your Board would like to invite you to attend the Andover Glen HOA’s annual meeting. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the Sagebrush Elementary School cafeteria. We’re lucky in that Sagebrush is an easy walk for AG residents. This is your opportunity to meet your Board and other members of your community, to share in determining the Board of Directors for the next year, and to participate in general discussion with your neighbors.

A representative from RTD’s FastTracks program will open the meeting with a 20 minute presentation. The primary focus will be on how FastTracks will affect us here in Aurora. FastTracks is the 12-year regional transportation plan to improve and expand bus and rapid transit in the metro area, which includes Golden, Boulder, Niwot and Longmont. This program goes beyond T-REX which is currently under construction.

After the FastTracks presentation, each Board member will briefly summarize the activities related to their particular board assignment and what they have done this year. This will be followed by nominations and voting for members to fill the vacant board positions. We have 3 terms of 3 years and 1 term of 2 years available. Currently we have 3 people who have volunteered to have their names on the ballot; however, we still need more of you to volunteer! Being a Board member is not too complicated. Each term is for 3 years. You run for the Board, not any particular position. Who fills which position is then decided among the 9 members. We have 11 meetings a year, each lasting approximately 1½ hours. The amount of time you will spend on your office between meetings depends upon your assignment. WE NEED YOU to come to the meeting and add your name to the ballot!

Voting is restricted to one vote per household. Annual assessments must be paid in order to qualify for voting privileges. An Absentee Ballot is included with this issue of the Gazette. Please vote absentee if you can’t attend the meeting. If you vote absentee, then decide to attend and vote in person, your absentee ballot will be voided.

After the voting is concluded, the meeting will be opened for homeowner discussion. The new Board members will be introduced at the end of the meeting.

So, MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW FOR SEPTEMBER 20!! A reminder will be posted at the Parker Road entrance over the preceding weekend. ~

Have You Secretly Been Wanting to be Involved in Police Work and Community Safety?
By Dave Kline

If you have, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is looking for you! I have been advised of 2 programs which are available to you.

The first is Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training which trains people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their community and to help with non-emergency projects to improve the safety of the community. CERT training includes Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Fire Suppression, Basic Disaster Medical Operations and light Search and Rescue Operations. Classes will be held on Saturdays September 18 & 25; October 2, 9, 23 & 30; and November 6 & 13 (8 total). Each class runs 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Contact Sergeant Randy Councell at 720-874-4186 to guarantee your reservation.

The second opportunity is the Citizen Academy which will provide you with Sheriff’s Office Overview, Arrest Control Techniques, Firearms Demonstration, Patrol-ride-alongs and Facility Tours. Classes run October 5 through 28 on Tuesdays and Thursdays (total of 8 sessions) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. each evening. Contact Deputy Larry LaFlam at 720-874-3903.

If you attend these classes, please let me know. I’d like to advise the members of our community who to turn to for help if any situation for which you are prepared should arise. My number is 720-870-6697. ~

Treasure Hunt
By Barbara Harrington

In my position on the Board as Welcoming, I have welcomed many of you and your pets to Andover Glen over the course of the 5 years I have held the position. I know many of you other residents because you are my neighbors or I have met you at annual meetings, barbecues, or AG work-days. Now in serving also as President, several residents, many of them being dog owners, have come to me over the course of the last month to ask for my help. In turn I am asking for help from those of you who own dogs and take them for walks in our neighborhood and in our park and Sagebrush park – PLEASE pick up after your pet.

Many of us love the furry 4-legged fellows, but none of us enjoys a fresh pile of doggy “treasure” which has been left in our yard. In general none of the people I have spoken to see dogs running at large in our community (thank you!). Which brings me to conclude that the “treasures” are left by dogs on a leash which are leading their owners on an outing. Cleaning up after your dog is a responsibility of owning that dog. I believe it is an expectation that a dog on a walk is likely to leave a “treasure” or two and the owners should be prepared to remove it from private and public properties.

If your child is responsible for taking your dog for a walk, please be sure they have a baggie or whatever is necessary to take care of any “treasures” and check with them when they get home that they have properly disposed of them. There’s no excuse for leaving “treasures” for other homeowners to pick up. Thank you for your help! ~

Tales from the Underside of Things
By Max Reed
Well, I haven’t seen any yet, but I know, it being a Big Election Year and all, it’s only a matter of time until we see some political signs popping up in our neighborhood. Since I am officially an unaffiliated voter, and vote the person, not the party, I might be one of those that are targeted by these happy little campaign signs. After all, it appears that the Presidential race will be tight, so unaffiliated voters may hold the key to victory. Well, here’s my strategy. I am going to go around and count the number of signs in our neighborhood for both candidates, and I’m also going to note when they go up. I will then assign twice the weight to signs that go up the earliest.. In my final tally then the earliest signs will count twice as much as the later signs. Looking at the final tally, I will then vote for the candidate that had the fewest number of signs. Early signs will then really hurt the candidate. Seems as good as any other method of choosing between the two multi-millionaires running for President.

Closing off Chenango?
The issue of possibly closing off Chenango, the small connector street that connects Andover Glen to the Woodgate subdivision to vehicle traffic, but not pedestrians, has once more come up for discussion among AG Board Members, and research is being done to explore the procedures of requesting this from the City of Aurora.

Advocates of this claim it will reduce pass- through traffic in Andover Glen going to and from Parker Road on the way to Woodgate and using Saratoga and Dillon as a route. Opponents stress that closing off Chenango would make it more difficult for AG residents to get to east bound Smoky Hill Road. What do you think? Please come to the annual meeting to voice your opinion about this possibility.

Next Meeting reminder:
The next AG board meeting is open to all AG Association members and is the annual meeting. It will be held at Sagebrush Elementary School on Monday, September 20th at 7 p.m. A guest speakers will be present and it is also your chance to vote on several Board Member positions. President Barbara Harrington will be reciting some of her award winning poetry. Don’t miss it!
